Businesses and other stakeholders in NSW are being invited to comment on the state’s mirror Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws.
A discussion paper has been released by SafeWork NSW as part of a statutory review of the WHS Act and Regulations.
The regulator is seeking feedback on “how workplace safety laws are being interpreted, applied and enforced in NSW”, according to SafeWork NSW executive director Peter Dunphy.
“We want to know what is working in NSW and what is not, so we can better understand if there are some laws within the harmonised safety framework that may need amendment to be more effectively applied in our jurisdiction.”
The review being undertaken by SafeWork NSW will only focus on provisions and objectives specific to NSW, given that a national review of the model laws is scheduled for 2018.
The review also covers pre-WHS codes of practice that continue to be operational in the state.
Comments on the discussion paper close on 20 December 2016.
